The permit class
What the eight hours actually consist of
Missouri requires eight hours for a permit, and a good deal of the day is classroom, not shooting. People are usually surprised by that, so here is the honest breakdown.
The morning is law. When force is legally justified in this state and when it is not, what the castle doctrine does and does not cover, where a permit stops working, and what happens in the minutes after a defensive incident. This is the part that keeps people out of trouble, and it is the part nobody signs up for.
The afternoon is on the range. Safe handling, loading and unloading, stance and grip, and the qualification itself, which is twenty rounds at seven yards. If you have never fired a handgun, you will still pass. We have taken plenty of people through it who touched one for the first time that morning.
Bring a handgun and fifty rounds if you have them. If you do not, say so when you book and we will have a .22 and ammunition set aside, which costs $15 and is genuinely the easier way to do it.
Retail and transfers
Posted fees, so nobody has to phone and ask
Buying online and having it shipped to a local dealer is normal now, and the only thing people want to know before they check out is what the receiving dealer charges. Ours is below. Send the buyer's copy of our licence with your order and we will have it ready the day after it lands.

The case carries defensive handguns, hunting rifles and shotguns, ammunition in common calibres, and holsters worth owning. Stock in a shop this size turns over constantly, so if you are driving in for something specific, call first and we will tell you honestly whether it is on the shelf.
Hours

Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except on class Saturdays, when the counter opens at 5:00 p.m. and the shop is otherwise shut. Closed Sunday and Monday.
Transfers can be picked up during any open hour. Gunsmithing drop-offs are taken until an hour before close, because the paperwork takes that long.
